Hey all
I tried staring my 68 Valiant the other day only to find it backfiring and coughing. I went through everything I could think of till I found that the distributor gear was missing teeth.
Ive replaced the gear but I need to where the rotor button is supposed to be in relation to the stroke?

Any help would be much appreciated :D

The rotor should point to about the 4:00 position when the frontmost cylinder is at the top (TDC) of its compression stroke.

Somewhere I heard that the rotor is supposed to 'point at' the #1 cylinder at TDC. Is that for V-8's? It sounds like with the /6 you want the rotor to 'point away' from #6 cylinder?

Nope.

You want the rotor to point to about 4:00 clock position as you look down at the distributor while you're standing at the RH fender of the vehicle.

The "rotor points to #1" is for small block Mopar V8s.
For the SL6, pointed to the 4:00 position as SSDan noted.

It depends on how the cap was wired and how the distributor was installed last time. If you point it at 4:00 and the #1 wire is at 12:00, you got prolems.
