The torque converter on my old transmission doesn't fit my new engine. The knob in the middle is about 1/8" too big and doesn't fit into the hole on the motor. The bell housing has the right bolt pattern to fit and I've used this transmission on 3 other 225 motors. The new motor I just ordered from Jasper. Do I need to get a new transmission? Can I just replace the torque converter? Would it be okay if I just grind a 1/16" off around the knob thats too big? Here are some pics:

You are trying to put a '68-up transmission behind a '67-down slant-6 (or at least a '67-down crankshaft). This won't work for exactly the fit interference reason you describe. Options are:

-Use a '68 or later crankshaft or engine assembly
-Use a '67 or earlier transmission and torque converter
-Swap a '67 or earlier torque converter, input shaft, front pump (and possibly other parts I cannot now recall) into the '68-up transmission
-Machine the counterbore in the rear of the crank flange (maybe?).

You cannot just install a '67-down torque converter onto the '68-up transmission (won't fit).

Call a converter company and get a late converter built with an early snout. Midwest, Edge, or Continental will do it for sure.

Personal opinion: Did you order the engine from Jasper, as a particular year (68 or nrwer)? If yes, I would contact Jasper, and tell tem they sent the wrong year engine (67 or older), and they need to correct the problem. Jasper is a reputable company and their engines are not cheap. Why should you incur addition charges for their mistake?

I called Jasper and told them what the deal was, and they admitted that they put the wrong crankshaft in. They did a return and repair and now the tranny fits. Thanks for the advice.
