I bought a new distributor to go with the new engine for my '79 D100, but when I went to plug in the ignition wires they were all wrong. The way the boots fit together the back wire is going to the tan wire and the tan wire is going to the black wire. Also, the boot from the truck is slightly larger than the boot from the new distributor and doesn't seat properly. I was going to use some extra wire and connectors to make a crossover adapter, but I wanted to know if everything would still work if the wires were crossed first.

When I went to MSD I used a Pig tail connector from Radio Shack. I know there is some way to tell which the wires are supposed to go. I beleive the method is try it one way and if it runs like crap then try it the other way. This dosen't seem like the correct way to me but mine ran good on the first try. I know I used some logic to determin my first and only try but in the end I still feel like I was lucky. Maybe other here know better.
