I want to do a compression test on my 81 /6 and would like a few pointers on the correct way to do it.
I seem to be missing when I start up but when it warms up the skipping is gone.

Thanks,

Warm up the engine, remove all six spark plugs, block the throttle and choke fully open, then test each cylinder in turn. Have a pad of paper divided into six columns so you can write down what you see. Keep an eye on the gauge as you operate the starter; take note of how high the gauge jumps on the first compression "hit", the second, the third, etc. You're watching to see not only how high the reading will go, but also how many compressions it takes to get there. If any cylinders are much below 120 psi, add a tablespoon of engine oil and retest the cylinder. If the readings are much higher and/or take fewer compressions to jump up, the rings are suspect.
