The instrument cluster in my Duster (heh) is completely shot to hell. Cracks everywhere, screw holes all broken up, plastic's all brittle and whatnot. Would it be worthwhile to try and restore what's there since I'll be painting it and using one of Sick6's custom panels, OR, should I try to get my hands on a junkyard cluster that's in better shape? |

If it were me, I would get the new, super groovy cluster. You can pick the brand and type of gauges that you want, wire it up correctly, and not have to screw around with 30 year old instruments that are of questionable accuracy and reliability. Good Luck, Greg |

That's what I'll be doing. However, Sick6's custom panel requires use of the original cluster's plastic housing, and mine's in sad shape. |

That shouldn't be terribly hard to find but at any rate you can do amazing things with JB Weld and paint. |

Been there, fought that battle w/ my sister's Ford Maverick which had the instrument lights keep going out. After several attempts to save the aging plastic with JB weld and even fiberglass, I gave up and ordered a cluster that was in better shape from a junkyard. Since then, there haven't been anymore problems. |

I'd be interested in some pics too, the original clusters have been competitive on ebay lately. (Makes me wonder if someone has a stockpile of 'em somewhere...) |

my website hosting service is shot so I don't have pictures of mine anymore, and I need to find a new host. but RDJ also has a panel on this board, and he may have his set up already. Check in the "slixers gallery" under "sick6's duster" and you will see a OLD red version of the prototype in a very beat up housing. I usually don't show people that picture anymore because it doesn't really represent the quality I am putting out, it was just the PROTOTYPE, but it will give you a basic idea of what I am doing. the new black ones I make out of a different material are much, much nicer, and stronger too. Please be wary of Ebay deals. unless its a name you trust, always be on your guard. And I have to agree with most everyone else here Jopapa, your better off finding a new housing out of a yard. Since you don't need one that works, the price should be cheap (10 bucks or so). |
