Post subject:  Antenna Base Tightening question

How to tighten the antenna base?
I looked under the fender on my 65 and the square peg just spins loosely...no luck tightening from the top where there are 2 indentations on the top of the chrome round part.
thanks!

Have you tried to remove the round chrome part on top?
I figure it might be a kind of cover/locknut, covering a second nut?
Just an idea, I dunno...

There are many diffrent setups. most factory units used a special tool.others a nut with spacers and adapters maybe something is missing. you should be able to tighten by hand to snug if all parts are there........
from the top side of the fender , under the fender just butts against it.

If it's a factory antenna, the plate under the fender should engage a notch to keep it from turning then the bezel threads on to clamp the mount to the fender. If the bezel is the type with a circle of notches around it there is a tool made for the purpose but in a pinch you can use a pair of long nose pliers. That runs the risk of slipping and possibly scratching the paint or marring the bezel. Better to use the tool.
