Some people aren't crazy about an open-element air cleaner, but they look cool. :)
I have one(brand-new) for sale, but be warned: It's a "home-aid" version! :D
It looks like a hundred bucks on the engine, but it isn't as nice underneath.
PM me with your E-mail, and I'll send you some pics if you want.

Open-element air cleaners look cool (some think) but they don't work as well as the factory units.

The unsilenced air cleaners used in the '60s are the same as an open element cleaner. The ones from '67-'69 were about 10".

He's referring to the fact that an open air element does pull in more hot engine air,... it forms a low pressure area over the carb inlet. (Because the air rushing straight through the element goes right over the top of the carb, causing a part-throttle stumble)
It's also harder to hook up a "positive"(?) PVC system....you have to run a small breather on the valve cover. I'm sure I forgot another reason.
Oh yeah, you lose your carb "hot-air" system.
Pro's and Con's. Just make sure you like it, it's your car. It's not like you can't change it right back if you don't like it.
