| Post subject: | Horn relay |
Just as the subject line says,I need a horn relay for my daughters 72 Valiant.According to my local parts stores they are no longer available and were only used for the 71-73 year models with this pt.no.The relay also has somthing to do with the key buzzer. As everything works on this car I would like to get the correct relay to restore the horn and key buzzer to proper working condition.Any help is appreciated. Yep, the '71-'73 cars had kind of a cheesy "rattle the horn relay contacts to serve the key-in buzzer functino" setup. I yanked the small wire off this relay in my '71 Dart 'cause the buzzer was annoying me. You can use a regular, normal horn relay without buzzer provisions to get the horn working, and if you really want the key-in buzzer to work, you can simply hook that wire (which is above the driver's kickboard) to any ol' 12v buzzer. There are a few different styles of horn relay mounting in '72. Can you show us a picture of the one you're trying to replace? UPDATE: Here y'go, a brand-new '71-'73 relay/buzzer for cheap money. |

Thanks Dan,my relay looks like the one in the auction, but chose to go with a relay specced for a 76 Dart and live without the buzzer. The can on the new relay is the same size as the original but the mounting tab looks like it slides into a bracket of some sort,I just slid it down over the top of the kick panel and it works great.
