Looks to me as if the guy who started the thread doesn't have the knowledge or tools to diagnose the rather poorly designed emissions system (with O2 sensor and MCS-equipped carburetor) in his '86 Ram, so he's babbling about what a piece of junk the Carter BBD is.

I mean, c'mon, how seriously can a thread be taken that contains this statement (emphasis added):
Quote:
BBD's are lousey carbs. They work great when new, but when they get to needing a rebuild, they should just be thrown away. Even the better parts store's re-man'd ones don't work right.
Well, yeah, duh, because there's no such a thing as "better remanufactured" carburetors!

Moron, it is probably one of those crappy Holley 6280's and he thinks it is a carter.

Dude claims to be a 20-year ASE-certified tech. If he's not lying, that says more about the low standards of the ASE certification process than about this guy's knowledge. But he's probably just lying. 2-year ASE techs shouldn't ask questions like "I'm sure it's not the heat crossover, but could it be the heat riser?" and "The heated air door, that's in the air cleaner, right?", and "Could it be a problem with the computer?"...let alone a 20-year ASE tech!

Just a tick off topic. ASE certification is a joke.I was a ASE master auto tech, untill I let all of them expire. All it means is you know how to pass a test. When I got my last cert, for master, it was on auto transmissions. I have only worked on Powerglides, and 904/727 torqueflytes. Never worked on a electronic trans, but got 100 on the test. So now I am competent to do diagnostic and repair on a MB 6 speed auto. Yeah, right.

Probably more competent than those that work on them...........
