Open the windows, get the car up to 75 mph or faster, then open first one vent box then the other. The crud'll get blown out but good!
You can use a shop-vac if the other way doesn't appeal to you.

Today as I was driving back from the base my girlfriend and me opened up the vent boxes in my Duster....and promptly got faces full of dust. Any good way to get the vent boxes cleaned out good so we can avoid getting faces full of dust (and that funky musty smell) when we have the vents open? |

so do you still have a girlfriend?/ Do as mentioned but use compressed air first -- it will assist in dislodging the stubborn /damp portions of the debris. then shop vac away |

I used a combination of the 70MPH trick as well as the compressed air... I used compressed air from inside the car, blowing up, into the cowl. Tried it with the opposite vent door both open and closed, both with great success. I also tried throwing some masking tape over the cowl to avoid loosing so much CFM out the cowl, directing the crud to the opposite box. Get your nozzle up there real good and point in as many directions as possible. Be sure to do it from both sides a couple times, with varying techniques to insure a through job. And Oh! Also, I highly recommend wearing a long sleeved shirt and some light gloves, as there are some fairly sharp and or rusty edges up in there. OK Good Talk... |
