I'm going to order an aluminum radiator for my 66 Dart this week. Anyone have good or bad experiences with griffin universal or Afco. ? If you are using a griffin is it the 3" thick unit? |

I'm using a Griffin, and it's not their thickest unit. The installation isn't complete, but it looks like it will be tough getting a fan in there. I had a shop wend brackets to the radiator tanks to make it mount up. |

I'm concerned about the fan also. Is yours the 22" wide and 2.25" thick? |

The AFCO I used in my 69 RR which is a two core and is 27 1/2" x 19" is 15 yrs old and is embedded in epoxy to the tanks. It Was one of the best "things" I've done to to the car. The 440 stays cool in Florida's summer heat. I did have to make up a pair of "saddles" to hold the tanks on the bottom and a couple of other brkts but it has held up perfectly over the years. Hope this helps.

Point of information: this guy seems to make original-size/original-shape aluminum radiators for old Mopars. |

Ron Davis makes an alum rad for some Mopars that drop in and even use the OEM fan shroud if so equiped. They are not cross flow with side tanks like some alum rads, they use top and bottom tanks, and if painted semi-gloss black, they will have somewhat of an OEM appearance. There's a good article in the new Mopar Action about replacement radiators. It explains the reason many Mopars, some 440-6 powered, kept cool when new using only a 22" rad. Bottom line is the new replacements are not equal to OEM. The '70 Sport Fury GT 440-6 with a 22" rad relied on a 22" rad to cool, yes, a 440-6 C-body came std with a 22" rad, goes to show how good the OEM units were/are. |

BTW, there is no 2 or 3 core rads, they come with only 1 core consisting of 2,3 or 4 rows. |

luckily I checked out before typing... I was going to start a thread asking about aluminium rads. I need one large rad for my car, engine bay is like any 67-69 a body from up there. Sources? griffin has a site? thanks! I'd need the bottom pipe configuration for a slant six engine. |

I have used both Griffin and Afco universals (for SBC - 22X19") and the Afco is a better unit since it is much easier to mount and is more strongly built. It is about 1-2 lbs heavier, but the extra weight is worth it. Either will cool the heck out of the wildest Slant. Afco PN 80100N. Lou |
