hello slantsixers-been working over minor things on my newly aquired 80volare wagon and found a peculiarity on the lighting. the headlights and taillights which normally go on when you pull the knob onthe left of the dash, only go on when the ignition switch is in the on position.on my 77 f body wagon and the 76 feather duster as well as my other cars the headlight/taillight knob turns the lights on independent of whether the ignition switch is on. the other lights(signals, 4 way, brake lights back up lights) work normally. is this correct for the 80 model or is something ng with the switch/wiring? perhaps it was a safety change toavoid a dead battery by leaving thelights on when the ignition is turned off? thanks bob fisher

Something's the matter with your wiring. A previous owner probably did some repairs under the dash and didn't get the feed wire to the headlamp switch right. It's supposed to be hooked to always-hot +12v, not to ignition-on +12v. This is a safety issue, since you need to be able to have your parking/marker lights on regardless of whether the ignition is switched on. The (usually 12ga red, unfused) wire leading to the headlamp switch's B1 terminal and the (usually 18ga pink, fused) wire leading to the headlamp switch's B2 terminal both need to be live all the time.

(H'mm...did somebody say lights? )
