Well, sort of. I used the mile markers on the highway to gauge the accuracy of my odometer, and after five miles, my odo. was up only a tehnth of a mile, so 2% fast after doing the math. I'm surprised that when the rear axle w/ 3.55s was installed, they put in the appropriate speedo pinion gear. Just to make absolutely sure, I'll be verifying the gear ratio tomorrow when I have the car up on a lift. The tag says 3.55, but I think I'd be wise to make sure it's right. If it is, 17 MPG when it was out of tune for half the tank is pretty good! |

I use a GPS to check speed and distance, and to set the cruise in the assorted vehicles I drive. |

Wassamatta, you not in tune with the old skool? I've got a GPS for my laptop, but I have yet to find a 12V power supply that'll work with it without having serious issues. |

Vary rarely are both the speedometer and odometer correct (or the same percentage off) My odometer is within 1%, the speedometer 5-8% high.......... |

My daily driver is a '64 Valiant - How "old school" can I get? The kids gave me a Garmin Etrex for father's day a couple of years ago, and it's been a lot of fun and very useful. I would like to get a WAAS-enabled GPS with compass for geocaching, but this one works. For what it's worth, open road racers use GPS's to track their average speeds. The older Garmin GPS III-Plus still reads to 0.1 MPH at over 100 MPH! |
