Post subject:  road draft tube usage 60-62 valiants

was the road draft tube only installed on 170 engines for the 60-62 valiants? I have ran across several of these cars & the 170 seems to have the tube & the 225 has a pcv system. Is that just normal or is it because the flat land where I live received more 170 cars versus areas where hills & terrain apply? Thanks -- just curious, Lawrence

PCV first became available in '61, when it was mandatory in CA and optional elsewhere. For '62 it became mandatory in NY. For '63 it was installed in all production. This applies across all engines in all bodies. There was no difference in road draft tube availability or factory equipment between 170 and 225. The 225 road draft tube was longer than the 170 item, and the 170 PCV valve was calibrated differently to the 225+ item, but that's it.

My first '62 Valiant had a 225 with a road draft tube; I retrofitted it with PCV myself.

Forgot to mention, Mopar offered PCV retrofit kits for models back to...I donno, at least 58, probably further back than that. They consisted of a PCV valve, cap, retainer spring, hose, and a thick carb base gasket with a nipple for the PCV hose.
