If you really want some shake put a poly trans mount in. I did that in my Duster when it was still on the street.
I built solid mounts for my Valiant out of 2X2 box. Yes, there is some vibration passed into the car.

Well I found out that the best way to change out your spool type motor mounts if you don't want to pull the engine, is to get the car up high on a frame lift, loosen both front-to-back bolts a good amount (the ones that go through the spools), use a transmission jack (1000lb was what I had available and it worked swimmingly) to raise the engine an inch or two off the mounts, then you can reach up and undo the passenger side mount and swap it out, lower the engine back onto the mounts, lower the car, then use a regular jack with a couple 2x4s to rasie the engine again, this time replacing the driver's side mount, lower the engine again, raise the car back up overhead, then torque down the main spool bolts, and the job is done. Took me hours of cussing and bleeding before I figured out the best method to do it, but once I did, it was a piece of cake. Now my problem is, my car shakes A LOT when idling. I still need to finish the tune up, but it's shaking so harshly even with new rubber mounts that I think something else is out of balance or something. Any suggestions? Maybe just a necessary break-in period for the new mounts? |

I had my engine and rods balanced during the rebuild and everything shakes hard inside the car after changing the mounts. The motor is motionless and you can put your hand on it and not feel anything, sort of like a smooth sowing machine. The old mounts were much softer, the new ones are like a rock. It has been 14,000 miles now and it is calming down, about half as bad as when they were new. They are still pretty stiff though. It is not the same rubber, thats for sure. After changing the transmission mount it calmed down some. Having stiff engine mounts and a sloppy xmission mount was not a good combination. |

That's what I was afraid of. I'll hopefully get the valves adjusted this week and get around to the HEI conversion, bo hopefully that'll make a difference.

Did you install those Aussie gaskets yet? I have found several intake leaks and as I tried to fine tune, going down in jet size from a 58 to 55, they showed up big time causing a rough idle, giving it some gas and or when the power valve kicks in they diminish. Running with a #60 jet it purred like a cat and never heard it miss a beat at any rpm. Some engine vibration can be felt the leaner I go. So Slant Six Dan is right. I had the car on an engine dyno down by McChord Airforce base in Tacoma Friday with a #57 jet and could here the lean miss when the vacuum went back up. I am ordering the Aussie gaskets ASAP! on Tuesday. |

Yeah I stuck with rubber all the way around. Upside is that should I change the mounts again in the future, I can refer back to this thread so I can get it done with much less frustration I built solid mounts for my Valiant out of 2X2 box. Yes, there is some vibration passed into the car.  Ted, haven't installed the gaskets yet. The plan is for this Friday and Saturday if I can get my hands on the right thread sealer since I'll be replacing all the manifold studs as well. |

I was just setting a Super Six down in my 79 Aspen this weekend and tried to get new mounts for it but at NAPA and Advanced Auto all they had available was replacement centers not the whole mount itself. Looks like they must be getting their mounts from the same supplier and they have discontinued making the whole mount. I have got them in the past from both places as a complete mount. Doesnt look like replacing the center spool would be fun. Oh on the orignal post ?, now I cant confirm this but looking at my spool setup this weekend it looks likes that you are only supposed to snug up the mounting center bolt of the spool so it doesnt squeeze the cradle onto the mount itself. I figure this seeing as how its got a locking nut on the bolt and the ears at the top of the cradle on the K frame which would trap the bolt from coming up out once the washers are drawn underneath them. Just a thought. Dont get me wrong I tightened it up goood but just not enough to squeeze the cradle onto the mount itself. Seemed like it took some of the feedback of the engine out of the drivers seat to me. Just a thought. |

I have around 500+ miles on the Aussy gaskets now, no leaks at bolt up and not even a hint of a leak 500 later, gasket still look new around the edges......... after many times with the Felpro stuff I will never go back if I have a choice...... Same for that China exhaust man, so far so good...... Did find a vacuum leak on the 2 barrel intake at the EGR valve, got that solved now, capped that pup off, was causing poor fuel milage and ruff running at low RPMs (way lean)...... Only emissions stuff I'm using now is the valve cover breather and the PCV valve. |

Uh is this reply maybe on the wrong post?
