Gents, Does anyone have experience testing tall cams with a stock SL6 904 torque converter? How tall a lift can you go with a solid lifter, and still have short enough duration and overlap to run the stock 904 (1780 rpm) converter? What are the cam specs and who makes the cam? I am running the stock 1974 cam that has been reground to 254D and .435 lift. This one works pretty good, but how high can I go? I am looking for more torque, not rpm horsepower. My cruising rpms are between 2000 and 2600 rpm. I never go over 3000 rpm. Thanks! |

That stock converter seems to have almost no stall above idle. It feels right for the stock engine and 550 rpm idle. I don't know how you cammers live with it unless you are using some pretty steep gears out back and holding the brake at the stop lights. Seems as though most of the aftermarket world has left us in the lurch. You know .... available for 273, 318, 340 ...... |

This is exactly the issue, the SL6 needs a completly different profile and cam "lay-out" to make use of the long stroke and the longer "blowdown" cycle of a 120 degree in-line six.Seems as though most of the aftermarket world has left us in the lurch. You know .... available for 273, 318, 340 ...... The two "dual pattern" profiles cams i recently work-out with Erson do a good job in this "gap" area, between a stock (factory engineered) cam and the aftermarket's V8 thinking on a SL6 camshaft mindset. Go look at the Erson Gorp Buy message thread for the part numbers and profile sheets. DD |

I think Doc described the Erson "deal" very well, and for now it really is the cheapest/most up-to-date cam you can get. On a side note, I have a Schneider 264 Adv. Dur./.224 @ .050/ with .480 lift. And I wouldn't want any bigger with my stock converter and 2.76 gears. Massive torque(over stock), and idles well.(Some may think it's too choppy) |

Would the Schneider cam produce more torque? It looks like it is very short duration with lots of lift? Are they still available? If so, where? What kind of mileage do you get? I don't mind a choppy idle as long as I can get more torque. My rpms stay between 2000 and 2600 90% of the time. Thanks, |

Very nice profiles, thank you! I wonder how Doc's RV15 compares with the Schneider 264 for torque? |
