Post subject:  a great, service oriented source and price on Rollmaster set
Folks,

When I find a GREAT supplier I like to share the news...I wanted one of the adjustable crank gears which led to wanting a new 9 key adjustable timing set, (double roller chain, both gears) which led inevitably to Rollmaster. Seeing the one on ebay I called the folks selling that one.

They were Internal Engine Parts Group who passed me to their Jacksonville FL place, a Rollmaster authorized USA seller. (I had called Nickels on Tennessee and Nickels said they would have to order from Australia and it could take 3 months. )

With Internal Engine Parts, the set was In stock, price too low to stick in here ($50 less than my machine shop can get wholesale but PM me and I will tell you). Ordered Wednesday afternoon, arrived in Raleigh NC on Friday morning. WOW. I had called Don in the Meridian MS office. He has slant racing conections and is thoroughly familiar with our engine. They have offices across the deep south.

Uhhh...why exactly is the price "too low to post"? What'd they do, threaten to send someone to whack your kneecaps if you told anyone what you paid? :twisted: You're obviously trying to help, and that's great, but the best way to help both we who want to buy the set and they who have a good price on it is to just go ahead and say the price. Shout it out! "Too low to post" doesn't really help anyone, and throws an extra load on whoever might be aggravated enough at that kind of cryptic half-help to make a phone call, get the price, and finish up the help job by posting it here. ;-)

As one who can't recall disagreeing with you, in this matter while I don't disagree, I would offer that this time and in the absence of fact, your observation may be flawed. in part.

"Price too low" was the lawyer's (me) way of complyig with a promise made as a gentleman't agreement. Because the source was willing to help slant sixers "seriously interested" while not compromising relationships with its chain of distribution, I promised I would not state the price point publically yet would try to tell such persons that a deal may be had..

How many persons have ordered the Erson cam? Many fewer than Tom McGibbon allocated blanks for. Definition is important...I consider "seriously interested" as those ready to put up money, not just talk about the proposition, and interested enough to take the effort to find out. I recognize others may have other definitions and/or have come to accept the "kiss and tell all" of the modern world. I don't do kiss and tell all, in part because persons lives and fortunes have depended on my honoring ther confidences. A lifetime of discretion does hnder my complete openess, I agree. So we disagree over whether one should tell all or whether one should perform a minimal screeing function to honor an agreement.

How many persons on this forum are hell bent on or strongly considering buying a Rollmaster set right now? Hard to say, but in my experiece the idly curious look for price first, the truly serious for availabilty, first. After all if a commodity isn't readily avalable the putative price doesn't matter much..

But never think I don't regard you and your help as the key points in my slant education, my great slant rework, and as to-be-hoped-for sources in the future!

Ah, that's different. When I saw "Price too low to post!" it reminded me of those sleazy car dealer ads in the Sunday newspaper: "Get down to Dealin' Dan's Downtown Dodge NOW!! Brand-new '07 Charger, fully loaded, Hemi, the works, hurry, won't last, PRICE TOO LOW TO PRINT!!" type of stuff.

If you'd said "The seller would rather I didn't publicly state the price", I would've nodded and moved on. Thanks for clarifying your position, which makes perfect sense.

I agree, so if you'll excuse my being the teeniest bit picky without intending to be prickly: It is a recently trendy but bad habit to say "price point" when what is meant is "price". They are not the same. We are talking here about a price, not a price point. Very few people actually use "price point" correctly; it is most frequently misused as a sort of MBA buzzword when discussing prices.
