found a 65 polara locally for cheap, he bought it and is putting the 383 in his superbee, it was an auto but reverse is out in it, could we put the engine/tranny(slant/auto) from our 73 parts dart in there? would it bolt up to the rearend? what else would we need? thanks |

383's are cheap. Not worth the effort to switch IMO |

The Polara is a very large car; not well suited to a slant in my opinion. |

lots of Polara's came with a slant, they are around 300lbsmore than a 73 A body. So put 2 people in your A body slant and drive it will give you something to compare too. K-frames are not the same, so engine bolt up will be a challange. Swap the yoke with your trans........65 is frist year of the slip yoke on the 727 so driveline should work..... Tend to agree with other posts, but what-ever turns your wrench If the 727 trans is stock 65, it's worth more than a few bucks to the right person looking for a big block 65 727 dead or alive. One year only valve body and case..... |

thanks, its almost too good a deal to pass up, especially with an extra slant sitting around...especially if the tranny could bring some $ for the project, any idea how much i could get for it? thanks |

I asked $350 for my 65 BB727 a few years ago. That tranny has 2 pumps. One in the rear and front. You can tow it indefinately without disconnecting the drive shaft. The can also be push started! |

In 1965 the Polara was a C-body car, almost 18" longer and 9" wider than a Dart of the same year. I, so far, have been unsuccessful finding a curb weight spec but the 1964 B-body version was just shy of 3800 lbs. I would be very surprised if the 65 was less that 4200 lbs. It was a large car, even larger than the 65 Plymouth Fury. I'm not saying a slant won't go in and pull it, but I think you will be very disappointed in the performance after all the work. A 318 poly or a big block would be a much better match. |

The 225 was available in the C-body. Expect 0-60 times in the vicinity of 45 minutes... ...with a tailwind. |

I was thinking B body, but that C is right, add 600+ (6 skinny grils) to that wieght of a 73 A body I would give the Forward Look guys a try first, they like to use them in place of there early 727s to get rid of their ball and trunion systems, but it has to be a cable shift 65 727..... lot of folks doing small block to big block swaps in 65 B and C body might want it too...... |

If I had the "engineless" car and the SL6 engine / trans assembly just sitting there, I would do the install. In my book, a running car is way better then any "roller", no matter what engine is in there. I would not "cut or weld" anything that would prevent the V8 from going back into the car at some later date. Basically, drop the SL6 into the C-Body's engine bay with whatever engine mounts you have, hook-up the rear tranny mount and then center the assembly. Now take any scrap steel or old bracket material and "cut & weld" as needed to get the engine connected to the V8 K-frame's mounting locations. The exhaust hook-up would be the biggest modification, everything else will be a "bolt-in". These days it is really cool to have a big ol' car that you can drive around and still get decent gas milage. DD |
