| Post subject: | Bum Alternator? |
Hey Gang So the Volare died the other day, started with a boost. Today I tried to start, couldnt. Volts across battery 11.85, across alternator 11.83. Start with boost & volts across both drop to around 11.4 Start air, headlights, hazards etc & volts drop to around 9.5, then continue to drop. Bad alternator right? The only thing that makes me unsure is that the alt gauge in my dash doesnt move... S. |

Bad alternator and/or alternator and/or wiring and/or dead cell in the battery. |

Well I took it in & bench tested it. No good... Got the new one in, but the battery wouldnt charge back up! My neighbor loaned me a battery (from his 27 T roadster!) & everything is right as rain! S. |

Spoke too soon... Ran fine for a day or so, but now the new battery is dead. Obviously it wasnt charging... The alternator was bench tested & found to be bad so ive got that swapped out. What else should I check that influences the charging? S. |

The plug had come loose on mine... Whats the red box on the firewall next to the regulator? S. |

IÆ’ it looks like a smaller version of the voltage regulator and has an oblong 2-wire connector on it, it's probably an EGR timer. |

Exhaust gas recirculator right? Thats some kind of smog equipment? Theoretically, if i was to pull this engine to use in another car, would I need this to make it run? S. |

That depends on what year and model vehicle the engine's going in, and what kind of emissions regulations you have to comply with in your jurisdiction. |
