Hi

For some reason my tail lights won't turn off.

Would this be because of a short or perhaps a fuse problem.

Any suggestions for where I should start to look?

Sure it's the taillights and not the brakelights?

The brakelights on my 64 work without the ignition being on, and a faulty brake switch will keep them on

emsvitil is quite likely right - the little plastic switch can wear a groove and hang up, leaving your brake lights on. Simply have somebody push on the brakes and turn the running lights on&off while you look at the lights. If it is really the running lights that are on, the front should be on too.

The switch is near the top of the brake pedal arm and easy to replace.

That fixed it.
