What is the torque specs for the three intake to exhaust manifold nuts/bolts? I have read anywhere from 15-35 ft pounds. Which is it? :shrug: I snapped the center one off today and have to go get it drilled out.

Dustergauy, you'll save yourself a lot of grief if you'll pick up a factory service manual. If you can't find a printed copy they are readily available on CD.

I think he means the three holding the hot box together, 22 ft/lbs according to the article in the "articles" section.

I will trust the factory manual. that says intake to exhaust manifold to 15 lbs. tighten inner bolt first then outer bolts. Is there something I'm missing here? (be careful with an answer).

I thought you were talking about the about the manifold to head bolts. I'm pretty sure my FSM gave 30 as the tourque for the intake man to exhaust man bolts. I don't have it here though. The article in the articles section was written by some pretty good slant minds.

My service manual 9-17 Paragraph 7 Install intake and exhaust manifold and carburator assembly to cylinder head with cup side of conical washers against manifold. Tighten nuts to 10 ft lbs.
The reason I'm being kinda stubborn about this is because last week I tightened one to 15 lbs. you guessed it it snapped off had to heli-coil hole, I was going to do valves so when I got it to machine shop another one snapped and had to drill oversize and heli-coil due to it being on in water jacket and threads were rusted to where the stock stud would not hold.

Once again, you are talking about the manifold to head bolts, NOT the exhaust manifold to intake manifold bolts.

for the exhaust manifold to intake manifold bolts, my 67 FSM says torque to 15, the 73 FSM says torque to 20, and the Haynes says torque to 30, and the manifold article in this website says 22.

Ignore the Haynes manual. Wad it up and start fires with it, recycle it, keep it in the throne room for emergencies, but don't rely on it when it comes to repairing your car.

Yes I do. It say 22, some say 30, some say 35, some say 15. I think I will go with 20, and go from there.
