Post subject:  Cheap Chrome Trim
I found some nice "inexpensive" or "cheap" chrome trim at a local department store. Of course it's just plastic, but it looks great and was only $14.99 for 12 feet.

I think it looks pretty good, better than before. I had to carefully scrape the old adhesive off with a razor blade, which took about two hours. Now, I only have the other side to do.

looks good! Hey, use "goof off" adhesive remover, or get some adhesive remover from a autopint store.....will work alot faster for you on the other side!!

at that price, you could afford to put on new stuff each time some punk kid swings his del-sol door into the side of your car. i mean it's gonna happen no matter what; so there's no point in beating up the expensive stuff...

Oh yeah, Goo Gone has been my co-pilot on this mission. You have to remember the adhesive on there is at least 36 years old, so its going to be somewhat stubborn. :twisted:

:shock: razor? take any paint off?


I used a plastic scraper to remove my glued-on trim... it allows you ti use some elbow grease without damaging the 3__ year old paint

Nope, didn't take off any paint. I had previously worked in the vinyl decal business and have experience using razor blades on paint.

People make the common mistake of applying to much pressure to the blade, when they should be letting the blade do all the work. If you have to apply pressure, you're not using the right chemicals to loosen the adhesive first.

Does this apply to all scrapers? or mostly razors?

Even easier to get rid of glued on trim...waxed dental floss. Use it to 'saw' off the trim...it'll cut right under the glue. Fairly clean to use...quite easy.
