Workin on this 80 mech lifter sl6 I just got and noticed that the valve spring height is lower on the intake? All the limited experiance I've had with the sl6 has been with hyds and valves, springs.etc are pert much the same height. Can anybody fill me in on this? Tks

Valve stem heigth must be the same on a Hyd. set-up or you will have problems.

Solid lifter engines can tolerate some difference which can be taken-up by the adjuster.
It is not uncommon to see the exhaust stems a little higher seeing that the exhaust valve & seat gets more wear which "sinks" the seat deeper into the chamber.

I'm and old hand at gettin my hands dirty so I understand about exhaust valves "sinkin in" after a while. This puppy is a head scratcher as all the exhaust valves are standin up considerable amount over the intake. I need to get back down to the rig maybe tomorrow and measure but it just looks like its built with different length in/ex valve. If the valves are sunk in its a bunch and as I don't know much about sl6 mech heads I was just wonderin if its built that way

Doc, problem not solved but think its figured out. Talked to an old MoPar mech today and we're thinkin the intakes are all hung open. Rig been sittin for few years and with moisture could be enuff corosion on stems to make them hang up. I have another posting about "stupid compression question" and this is more than likely the answer to my no compression problem. I'll try some penatrating stuff an gentle tapping and see if that frees things up. I got some nasty head injuries a few years back in a truck accident and some things no matter how simple just don't compute no matter how long I work at em. Oh well at least I'm still ahhh, what was I talkin about :?:  TKs
