OK I did it again, found another sl6/4spd Dodge van. It just needs to come home. Its been sittin for 4years and has no compression on any cyl. She turns over just fine, fan goes round, dist goes round, put it in gear and bump the starter and herky jerky it moves. The green stuff is green and the brown stuff is brown(no evidence of fluids swappin holes). Its a 1980 sl6 so i'm thinkin its mech lifter. I just cann't rap my old brain around why no comp at all. Dude said it was runnin when he parked it(yea right). Any ideas boys an girls? |

wild guess, your rings are gunked really bad. You might try one of the concoctions to pour down the sparkplug holes, and see if they loosen up. |

Pull all the plugs and get a oil can that can squrt oil in the cylinders. Next get a quurt of marvil mystry oil and squrt about four shots in each cylinder. Let it set a couple days. then turn the engine over with the plugs out. Do this a second time with the plugs out.. Then squart two times in the clyinders and put the plugs in. See if there is any compression. If so how much Thanks Ron Parker Jaggers Fabrication Slanted Attitude Dart |

Tks for the quick replies. Going on down to tinker whit it some more today. And the valve cover is next to come off. Oh and marvel mystery oil, dang, I forgot about that stuff I'll give that a try. Used that in my harley panhead for a top end lube and octane boost jeez 35 years ago. You have got to dig the internet and this form, I post a question and get answers from across this country and from down under, how cool is that. I'll post more when I know more(or less). |

Ok then, marvel oil is soakin in cider, valve cover is off an Oh No I am more confused(if thats possible). My tightest valve lash was about 1/2 inch. Rocker and cover are home now to clean the crude oil sludge off and look see how hammered the pieces are. But if they weren't even moving where was the compression going? We all know that the sl6 was durn near indestructable but I'm not gettin a good vibe off this puppy. Oh well I've got another useable longblock and a couple 318's laying around. So if this one won't hunt I'll just have to do something else. However I am part German and Irish so I vell force it while gettin a wee bit drunk. |
