just put in my rebuilt 225.got about 50 miles on it. it's running at 197 degrees with a meat thermometer in the radiator filler. i cut the center of the thermostat out so it aint stickin. the timing set at 6 dg btdc.no points, got a pertronix in it. my old eng ran hot too! even with a new radiator. i'm getting poor fuel economy also. the temp keeps on creepin up at idle too but holds steady at 197 deg. i only have a 67' and up hanes manual. it says if everything else is ok and i'm still running hot, then it's my carb. it was just rebuilt. a single bbl carter w/manual choke. i'm takin it apart tommorow.... my question is..... if the floats are ok at 1/4" can i still play with the float to make the carb get less fuel and lean it out a bit? also would i have to make the gap bigger or smaller. and...... what increments should i try 1/16" 1/8" ? i know no 2 carbs are the same, so maybe the 1/4" is letting too much fuel in. anybody else have this problem with heat and richness? any help would be appreciated thanks
