Hey guys,

New here, just had a question about which upgrade I should consider.

I'm the proud owner of a 66 cuda, and would love to upgrade its performance. I DO NOT want to go to an 8, as kicking someones butt on the street in a /6 would be so much sweeter, that and i've always been way more impressed by 6's.

After reading about engine upgrades, Most have advised that the super six conversion is both cheap and provides better milage and somewhat increased performance. However after viewing some other people set ups it seems that a lot of folks end up going to a 4bbl carb set up. Should I take the leap and put down the extra bucks and shoot for a 4 barrel carb set up such as the clifford intake or an offy? If so which carb would you guys recommend? what air filter would you suggest? and which intake setup would be advised? Also can this kind of setup clear the space under the hood?

Also do I have to worry about doing anything with the rear end when making a conversion like this in my A-body cuda?

Like I said I'm relatively new at all of this so any help, or a smack in the head would be appreciated. I'm also going to pick up the books slantsixdan has recommended to newbies.

You'll need to decide how fast you want to go and what sort of budget you have. The Super Six is a little more power for just a little bit of money. Four barrel setups can work with an internally stock motor, but are best if you're planning internal modifications.

Or you could skip both and go straight to a turbo / EFI buildup. :D I went through both a Super Six phase and a turbo / four barrel before I went that far, though.

Ok since your my counterpart I just have to say Hi. :D :D :D
I have a few 66 cudas and it will depend on what your goal is. Fuel economy
or speed, also speed is relative. I know guys that are darn quick with the super six and still get upper 20s for mileage.
Check and see what rear ratio you have now. 276 is common with a auto 323 with a manual.
Where are you located? You may be close to someone a be able to go check a ratio or setup out in person.
Welcome to the board.

Thanks guys,

Yah I think I'll go to the super six, dont have the cash for EFI.
I'm guessing I have the 276 ratio as it is an auto.
I'm located in Newfoundland, Canada, and my bet is there aren't a lot of mopar parts lying around here.

So what kind of carb should I be looking at, the Carter BBD?
I saw someone using a holley 350 on a valiant set up, would this be recommended? would I need headers?

Thanks again for the info
