| Post subject: | knocking noise |
When I did the valve adjustment I didn’t have a mess of oil like there should be. I had noticed before I took it apart that my pressure wasn't has high has it normally was. I developed a loud knocking noise. I had two mechanics tell me it was my rockers. Seeing has I’ve had the car for over 3 years I never had the valves adjusted. so I took every thing apart cleaned it all up but I didn’t realize that there is a front and back side of the bar the service manual says there’s a flat part on the bar I didn’t see any thing but I really wasn’t looking for that . After things were put back together the knock is still there. I noticed the damper looks like it was wobbling and the belt is worn on one side. I did notices a power difference after the adjustment. My next thing to check is the converter. What’s the best way I can check with out removing the pan if there is such a way? Has for the low oil pressure I’m going to check the pump. I do have an oil leak that seems to be coming from there. Even with the leak before I still had good pressure until recently. Timing chain will be next if the knock is not form the converter and then on to the bearings. |

The only way i know to check the converter bolts(they cause the rod knock noise) is to pull the access pan and tighten them. if there is another way i would like to know too! |

The cover bolts are easy to check once you take the dust cover off the bottom/front of the bellhousing. DD |

thanks Doc i don't know why i didn't think about the dust cover. thats why i had to ask. does the starter need to come off to take the cover off? it looks like it does. but not sure. i'm sure i'll find out tomorrow. |

well takeing the dust cover was easy and i checked the bolts and the all seem to be tight to specs. there is one bolt the is round and was hard to check. i still have the knock so now im movein to the chain. to i have to take out the Radiator to get the the cover off. i'm getting the tool to remove the dambner. thats a nother thing if you look at it when i's moving it wobowls and the belt looks a little worn. |
