The guy at the local NAPA told me that the choke thermostat for my wife's 64 Valiant with a Holley 1bbl is no longer available. Of course, he also said that the float bowl gasket is no longer available, and I found out that it was still stocked by NAPA, so I'm not sure if I should believe him or not. Anyone know where I can get a new choke thermostat for my wife's car? Or is my NAPA guy correct? |

I would try another store, both Napa and others. The local Napa store here has gotten pretty sorry. The best local store now is the Pep Boys, of all things. My Napa guy also told me the extended tip rotor was not available, and once I got a number for it from Slant Six Dan, he found it. If that fails, go on e-bay, and look in Hemmings for the great suppliers that keep this stuff on the self NOS. There are a couple of guys who have a pretty good stock of everything you could imagine for these old cars. Sam |

That choke thermostat has been N/A for a lot of years; your NAPA guy is telling the truth (wow! |

There is an electric conversion kit available as well. I was looking into it awhile back. Burbank carburetor and fuel injection had them. You can look them up on line. I think they use the DBA BCF. I lived in Burbank until recently and so that is where I sourced them, you may find them somewhere closer to you. The kit was about $50.00 and looked pretty good, easy to install and adjust. Of course if the stock type can still be had for a reasonable price, that would still be easier. My experiance with "unavailable parts", unless they are trully rare, is that you just have to look harder or talk to someone else, often times even at the same shop. |
