Post subject:  Radiator Swap???

Have been working on the /6 '71 auto Dart pretty steady. Now notice that the radiator is leaking from numerous places. Car has the 225 with DEALER installed AC, but they did not changed the radiator to the larger AC one.

I've looked on line and found various places that have the radiator to order at $190 cheapest price that may be plus ship. This would be the AC radiator that I read is a bolt in on the car in place of the non AC smaller one. Is that correct?

Being not as one would call flush with money I started to wonder about a radiator swap as the /'s radiator looks pretty rotten in both tanks and core.

I have a '73 318 AC auto car that has a good radiator in it. Will that swap over? I took a quick look a while ago and seem to remember that the top hose comes off on the other side of the radiator from the /.

I did a search on the board and see where Dan posted to use a Gates 20450 hose to adapt the top hose difference. Will that be all I need and will that work for my year model?

I'm not near the cars right now so I can't check other bits on it until late in the weekend if I'm lucky. When looking up radiators though I thought I saw that the bottom hose fitting on the 318 radiator is larger than the / hose would be. Has anyone done this swap? Will I be able to reuse the / bottom hose?

How about mounting? Does it bolt up or will I have to drill holes?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers

Yes.

Yes, but you'll likely need to have to have the top hose fitting moved by a competent radiator shop.

If the 20450 will get you where you need to go, that's certainly less costly than moving the outlet. Buy a 20450 and do a test-fit.

Shouldn't make a problem.

Also shouldn't make a problem.

Thanks for the reply!!!

Will certainly save me a bit of hard earned and scare funds.

I'll have a good look at it this weekend and see if I can get that hose from NAPA. Looks like they have a cross for it on their site. Comes in at about $13 I think. A lot more affordable than a whole radiator!

Cheers

The bottom radiator tank hose location is on the complete opposite side on the slant six vs. the V-8 radiators, isn't it? Does that matter when routing the lower hose when using a V-8 radiator with a slant six engine or vice versa?

I am running a replacement radiator from a '77 Volare/Duster in my dealer added A/C 72 slant. I had the tiny factory radiator before that. zno shround, or provisions to mount one. I have the Volare shroud on it. I had to buy a '77 Volare upper hose.

Up through '69, yes. Starting in '70, no.
