Post subject:  Valve cover breather

Since I changed over to a super six setup on my 71 Duster, I noticed that the super six air cleaner didn't seem to fix on the carb (Carber BBD) correctly. I might have been able to make it work, but it was just slightly touching some of the choke linkage and it's just not worth it to even mess with that.

So I bought a cheapie Edlebrock open air cleaner which seems to fit on just fine. Now I have a problem with the breather on the valve cover and im wondering what I should do.

First of all, what is the hose that is coming from under the car and up to the factory breather I have? I believe it comes from the gas tank but im not 100% sure. My question is, after seeing the breathers they have in Napa and Pep Boys, I don't see one that has an inlet for this hose. Can I just delete it or cap it off? Right now im running it to my breather but I have the hose that originally went to the air cleaner just sitting in the open.

Now is it possible to buy the grommet that goes into that valve cover hole? Or is it even possible to take it off a car in the junkyard without ruining it? Mine seems like whoever had the car before me had kinda cut it out some for some apparent reason.

Also, would this breather be correct for my application? Thanks

Napa part # 7354432

Missing air horn gasket(s), probably. Maybe a bent air cleaner neck. Find and fix the problem; the Super Six air cleaner is a much better piece for driveability, fuel economy, and performance than the open-element item you bought.

Fuel tank vent.

Correct, they're N/A aftermarket. Used on '70 California and '71 50-state Mopars only.

No.

Yes, the breather grommet is available in the aftermarket.

Where do I find a thicker type air horn gasket for the Carter?

You can just stack-up regular thin ones until you get the clearance you need under the cleaner.
