The driver's side vent wing on my '71 Dart won't stay open at speeds much above 40 mph; the wind blows it closed 'cause the pivot is loose. The passenger side stays open just fine. Anyone got suggestions for how to tighten up the pivot? |

For once, I have a suggestion for Dan. I have the same problem on my Barracuda. The diagnosis is that the lower shaft is actually broken in two. The lowest part of the shaft provides the friction you need. If it breaks, it still works, opens, shuts, and can be locked. It just won't stay open at speed. You can confirm this by getting the small phillips screw out, and inspecting. |

Interesting! Bet you're right. H'mm. Wonder if JBWeld could be used to effect a repair, or if I'll have to find a replacement. |

I have wondered about the JB weld fix as well. I was also considering drilling through the pot metal shaft, and putting in a pin as well. Let us know what you find. |

Guys a THIN coat of JB works. I did this on my Olds F-85. I did have to take the wing out and clean it up good. Frank |

Dan, Would it be possible to post a good close up pic? I have a couple ideas, but I have to admit, I don't know what the vent windows look like on a '71 Dart, since I have only worked on the Dart Sport, which doesn't have them. Jerry |

Same problem here, broken shaft. Any suggestions on how to get the lower part of the shaft out without too much disassembly? The same friction that holds the vent wing open is holding the broken piece in place. Steve 1966 Dodge Dart GT |
