I took a couple of the rod bearings off of my 225 and wonder what the numbers mean. They have: 4 73- (that could be 7.3- ) t c stamped on them. Also they are dark gray, pitted and gouged some. No copper showing through. Head gasket looks to be only a couple of years old, but I'm not sure if there was ever any work done on the engine. Can still see "Felpro" and some other markings as if it were new. ejones@seanet.com |

Pretty much what you would expect to see... the 4 73 is the manufacturing date of the bearing(s) and they sound like the origionals. Aftermarket bearings almost always have the size on the backside, stamped or recently, chemical or laser marked. Thanks Doc. I guess the pitting is consistant with water in the oil which would exlpain the pitting. ejones@seanet.com |
