I have a 1972 Valiant and a 1975 Valiant. I replaced the fuel pump on the 1972. The replacement pump stands off further from the block than the old pump. The bottom of the new pump is just a hair away from the motor mount - too close in my opinion. The old pump was obviously tucked in closer to avoid the motor mount. (apparently they changed the motor mount between 1975 and 1972 - this would be the correct replacement for the 1975).

The difference is about an inch or two. Autozone and Advanced both list onlt one pump, the one I purchased. Does anyone know of a source and a p/n for the correct pump?

All slant-6 fuel pumps are interchangeable, except that '71 (and '70 California) cars use pumps with a hose nipple on the pump body, leading into the crankcase, as part of the evaporative emission control system. Over the years, various companies have produced a variety of differently-sized and -shaped pumps, just as a function of the tooling and production methods those companies use to make their fuel pumps. There is no different pump P/N you can order to get one that'll give different clearance, and unfortunately, with the shrinking market for replacement mechanical fuel pumps and the decreasing volume in slant-6 pumps, they've mostly been just one design, made in just one factory, bought and distributed under a bunch of names. But you can try shopping for a different brand. See what NAPA will sell you. If the pump you have now is close to the engine side of the motor mount, it's no issue. If it's close to hitting the frame side, that's an issue to do something about.
