After reading some of the articles on injecting the slant I have a few questions. I found a 85 buick 3.8. I can get all the items needed in the build. Do I need the ecm? After reading about the megasquirt, is that a better ecm than the stock? Also what is the trouble with the clifford system? Is it because its a tbi? Is there anything else that I really need to worry about or trying to get hard to find parts. I've been thinking about this for a while. My son has a 64 val 225 with a 4bbl. Am I going to achieve a better driveablity using the efi? I have read that 20-28 mpg is feasible over what I have now. I would like some feedback on this. Thanks for the time |

I personally don't suggest using GM ECM's - by the time you go through the hassle of buying the programmer etc, you may as well just use a megasquirt. Flexibility galore out of the box without too much trouble... Clifford... I thought they sold the weber TBI setup. I hadn't heard anything about it. Quick glance at www.cliffordperformance.net doesn't show it any more. Rumor on here has it the business is ran out of a house now. Driveability and mileage will be achieved by tuning. 20+MPG is quite doable if the setup is right. I broke the 20MPG barrier recently after i switched rear gears to 2.94 (71 duster, /6 904, MPFI with megasquirtII, ford EDIS ignition) and still have plenty more to go with tuning. Go directly to MPFI - the cost difference between TBI and MPFI is minor compared to overall project cost. You'll be sorry later on if you start with TBI now. Fuel distribution is a concern with our manifolds and tbi won't do much about that. |
