I need some radiator help, my 1963 Valiant /6 needs a new radiator, advance and the others do not carry one for the 63, but do carry ones for Aspen's, Volares, etc. They look similar on the webpage. Will they fit in my 63? If not, where can I find a radiator for my 63?

There is no direct-fit radiator from another model. The A-bodies up through '64 use a narrower radiator bolt-on pattern than the '65-up cars. You can hack the left bracket of a later radiator and make it fit, or you can get this guy to build you a custom-fit aluminum radiator. Or, if your existing radiator is just clogged and not (too) leaky, you can have a good radiator shop re-core it.

Thanks dude, a custom rad is a little out of my league. Know any places to order a replacement 63? It's not leaky, it just starts to overheat and the coolant starts to boil after about 25 minutes of idling. The fluid is old and whatnot, so I'm going to drain the fluid and replace the thermostat tomorrow and see what happens.

Again: You cannot order a replacement radiator for your '63. They no longer exist.

If your radiator isn't leaky, then it's a fine candidate for re-coring by a competent radiator shop.

If your engine's overheating, it's not necessarily the radiator's fault. A good cleanout (the "fast flush" type compounds are of very limited effectiveness) and a new 180° thermostat are good first steps to try.

I was able to hack in an Aspen radiator into my '66 - wasn't quite a direct fit, but it worked. However, I couldn't get that one to stop leaking and now I'm trying to put in a circle track radiator. You could probably find one for your Valiant, but you're talking major fabrication.

I had no luck with "flushes" like prestone. I had my '72 recored. Fits and works perfect. Just my $0.02...fooling around withe flushes and thermostats is waste of time. At some point everything/everyone wears out or becomes unservicable. Copper is expensive, now that we let the China/India genie out of the bottle, so recoring may be more $$$. Mine was $175 for three rows, new trans cooler, and new filler neck three years ago. Good Luck!

I went with an Aspen radiator and I'm just going to cut it to fit. Thanks for the help.

I put an Aspen radiator in my '64 Valiant. The only real issue I ran into was height - It was necessary for to use a non-lever style radiator cap to clear the hood.
The Aspen unit cools well so far, but I still haven't put the AC back in.

I agree with Matt Cramer about the circle track radiator. Most of them are 19 inches tall and come in 22, 24, 26, 28 and 31 inch widths. Make sure the radiator hose locations are correct. The cost for them vary between shops so shop around, but they shouldnt cost more than $180.00 or so and less if you catch them on sale.
