After adjusting my valves today in an attempt to find the ideal setting for my engine, I heard a steady sucking noise after putting everything back together. It sounds exactly like a vacuum leak, but I couldn't trace anything. All hoses are good and the valve cover gasket is still in good shape and not sticking out anywhere. Any thoughts on what might cause this? I'm going to keep looking for a leak somewhere, just in case I overlooked something... |

It's possible the valve cover gasket is protruding in (rather than out) from where it should be. But more likely, something's not connected. Remove the air cleaner and carefully examine each and every hose connection. |

I have 2 breathers on my, 1982 truck 225 auto, valve cover. Would that make the PCV whistle a little at idle, in gear after fully warmed up? I have done the carb cleaner method on the carb and intake to check for leaks. |

No, mrhite, having two breathers will not cause the PCV to whistle. Jopapa, I hope you can find and fix the problem in a hurry...only Chevs and Fords are supposed to suck! |

I seen a lot of engine bay whistling noises caused by leakage between the carburetor air horn and the air cleaner neck. A clean rubber gasket and snug tightening usually solved them. Just be careful to not overtighten because that can distort the air horn and cause worse whistling and sticking choke valves. It can also damage the air cleaner itself. |
