I read alot of advice about headwork being a big factor in waking the slant up, I just took my head off the other day, what all should I have done to it and how is it going to help?

There are some do it yourself articles here, just do a search. I did some bowl blending on mine, did not increase the port size at all. Matched the intake runner openings to the intake ports on the head. The point is to allow the fuel mixture to enter with less obstruction, so more can get in. More air in means more air out, so a bigger exhaust will help. The majority here seems to go to a 2 1/4 to 2 1/5 inch diameter. What carb/intake do you have?

My head has been gasket matched and had minor bowl work by me. My first attempt. Polishing the chambers was easy and fun. After my head went to the machine shop it was disassembled by a friend and he really worked it well. My carbides wouldn't reach way down in there. I was shocked at how much was removed from the bowls etc.

I ran out of time trying to find out what oversize valves to add. I had to take a trip to Florida and I also ran out of money.

If you are Going for any performance gains the Head is the Place to start.

Do some major Porting and Polishing And put in the biggest valves you can fit.

Even with a Stock cam and a 2 BBl it will make a huge Difference!!

On my race Motor I picked up 2 Seconds in the Quater by just porting / Polishing and adding Oversize Valves.
