Post subject:  Best spark plug tube sealing.....

Should I install new tube o-rings:

1. Dry
2. smeared with a little oil
3. smeared with a little grease
4. smeared with a little hylomar

to get the best seal??????????

Dry. They'll get plenty oily on their own.

If they are new, dry is fine.

Once they are a bit old, I just put a little permatex around the edges and I never have leaks...

Should these tube o-rings be replaced at every plug change or less often? Are they used on 1979 /6?

Depending on your maintenance philosophy, the answer is either "about every 2 to 4 spark plug changes, depending on how fastidious you are" or "Every three decades, whether they need replacing or not".

They're used on 1960-1974 slant-6 cylinder heads. 1975 and later heads don't use plug tubes, therefore no plug tube seals.
