My guess is that the Iranian connection is either coincidental or a red herring. There are gangs of cyber thugs who find some kind of perverse thrill out of hacking and destroying or defacing poorly protected web sites. A few years ago there were a couple of Brazilian ganges running rampant. They would hack websites, leaving meassages taunting the rival gang. In other cases websites have been redirected to pornographic sites. Unfortunately this is a symtom of our times. Vandals have always defaced property, now they have simply extended it to a virtual world where the damage can be even more extensive and difficult to clean up. |
