Is it possible to re-locate my three speed column shift to the floor? Has anyone ever done this before?

Yep, you can relocate the shifter to the floor...

You will need a floor hump from a similar year car as yours, and a three speed shifter, shiftrods, and stick/boot/bezel from a floor shift 3 speed car (boot can be from a 4 speed car depending on the year) The thing that would be hard, is some models of 3-speed transmission may not have the 'bosses' to mount the shifter to the tranny body, if this is the case, you will have to either swap in 'that' type of tranny or you would have to make something 'work' to get the shifter mounted right... (or this may be a good time to get that 1st gear synchro A-230 from a 1973 Floorshift Dart).

Next step is figuring out a way to keep the old shift lever from slapping around on the column... (remove it, etc...)

good luck,

I did this to my 73 so that I could get it out of Tex to home.
Used a cheapo Mr Gasket 3sp shifter, work ok for what it was,
didn't need a hump mod, worked for the 2K miles I needed, but would
not recomend it for a driver (or other) in long term use....

Find a OEM sifter and do the tunnel if at all possable....

I cut off the shifter arm with my di-grinder and hung a tac on the other side
as a counter wieght (spring pin would not move to get the arm loose),
curde but efective

Post subject:  pM me and I will give you a 3 sp shifter

Hey!

I stashed the 3 speed floor shifter I took out of my truck when I put in a four speed. You have to make up a stabilixing something to hold it, probably, but so does everyone who installs one. (The require something other than just bolting to a floor like a Promatic shifter for and automatic). PM me and I will give you my old one for the shipping cost.
