I pulled #1 and #3 plugs to look at them. Last time I pulled them they were fresh. Back then they gave the indication I was running dangerously lean.

I have since

#1. drilled the jets out to the next biggest drill bit size.

#2. changed to the proper PCV VS whatever fit the grommit

The PCV change added some bottom end torque.

Anyways it still pings badly.

Looking at the plugs with the ground strap int the center back the insulator has a dark brown half way. Then the other half is is a nice tan.

I didn't index the plugs if that's what you are thinking.

I have a set of 1 or 2 range colder plugs I will be installing after a carb swap. My BBD right now has a shaft leak

I am polishing and porting a '65 273(?) BBD.

I always thought that bown/tan color was what you were looking to see. I think the brown is caused by additives to the fuel.

I have also seen that current gasoline additives give the plug a green/brown appearance depending on your gas station of choice.

Well I guess my question is why brown on 1/2 of the insulator? We are talking split right down the middle.

Half tan/ half brown. I've never seen a plug like that.

Yes....... But you can help it through tuning. Looking for tan or brown color on a plug to indicate fuel mix is not really the way to guess fuel mixer. My guess is your pig rich & maybe even a weak ignition system to boot.


Wet flow of the /6 head cant be to good. I can only guess what some of these heads work like after porting.
