I just purchased a 1968 225 SL6. The seller included a Carter BBD Model 4421 2-bbl carb (I identified it by some photos on the internet) with an aluminum manifold.

Does anyone know the specs on this carb and where I might find a detailed drawing/exploded view of it?

Thanks TJ

Carb was originally intended for a '68 318 passenger car application with automatic trans. You'll have some adaptation work to make the automatic choke work on a slant-6. Exploded view comes with a quality carb kit. You can also download the BBD manual I put together from Carter & Chrysler sources last month.

Hi Dan.

You mentioned that I would need to do some modifications to get Carter carb to work with the slant-6. I'm connecting to a A833 OD 4-speed manual. Will this make the mod easier or more difficult.

In general, can you describe the modification(s).

Thanks,

TJ

The choke lever is a V8 style that won't mate up properly with a slant-6 2bbl choke pushrod, and the '68 carb was made before the choke levers were held on with a screw, enabling a swap from the V8 to the \6 choke lever (the earlier carbs like yours have the choke lever staked/peened onto the choke shaft). I've made the V8 choke levers work by creating a new choke pushrod for use with the factory-type choke thermostat. It'd be easier to start with a #1232 Electric choke kit, because those kits are adjustable while the factory chokes are not.

The only other mod that would need considering would be if your '68 carb is a Clean Air Package unit with a hole in each throttle plate. Check and see.

Other than that, there's no mod needed. Everything'll hook up. Use the '66-'69 273/318 air cleaner and the shorter accelerator cable.

Not to hijack the thread, but how do I view that Carb manual PDF on a mac?

Thanks,

Nat

Same way you view any other PDF on a Mac. With Adobe reader or OSX Preview.
