So, my '67 barracuda that I just pick-up up has the #2 and #5 hole's very low on compression. The short block was rebuilt but the head is the old head with 190k+ miles. I'm thinking that it's got a few burnt valves but I've yet to have time to pull the valve cover and take a look. I've new to slants and I've never played with the valvetrain on anything before but I have glanced at the valve adjustment procedure posted on here. Could the valves have come that much out of adjustment to cause it to barely run on 4 cylinders? I'm not sure about adjusting the valves on this writhing slant 4, let alone trying to warm it up, any ball park numbers to adjust it cold to at least get it running on all 6? Thanks gang |

Would the quick and dirty way to set the lash on a cold motor be to turn it to TDC adjust the lash on the opposite valve on the same cylinder that has a valve open. So say the #1 Ex valve is wide open, set lash on the #1 Intake valve (cause you know it's fully closed), and so one till there all set? Good enough to get it hitting on all 6? |

if you have a air compressor handy bring the cyl to tdc and hook the air hose to it and listen for were it leak out(intake/exhaust/dipsticktube)it will give you some idea. |
