Has anyone tried to used the jeep stuff on thier slant? I dont fallow this board much but could the par5ts for a conversion be modified to work on a slant??

They could, although most of the Jeep 4.0 systems use oddball crank triggers you'd have to copy onto the Slant Six crank pulley, and most use a single-tooth Hall effect distributor sensor too. There are several different systems that they used throughout the years.

The biggest advantage GM systems have going for them is that both HEI and Chrysler ignitions used electronically identical distributor pickups, which makes installation a bit easier if you must use a production ECU.

mallory makes a crank trigger kit for a even-fire v6 that could probably made to work on the slant. as for the distributor, it wouldn't be hard to file 5 teeth off the trigger wheel of an electronic distributor. i'm just not sure about the ability to program the jeep ecu.

with enogh time and ingenuity, anything could be MADE to work. it might even be worth it if you can get the parts cheap enough. thats the other advantage to the gm stuff. its all over the place and affordable.

Well I was thinking of the jeep stuff because of the kit comes with everything. Maybe the crank trigger could be made out a 440 unit. The ecu and everything is there in kit.

The kit is attractive as it is complete, but as pointed out it's had to make work for a slant and is not tuneable. No fuel injection conversion is cheap or easy. There is much fabrication to perform or pay for and much time needed for tuning and debugging. Megasquirt is cheap, but more work than other aftermarket systems. Throttle body injection is easier, but doesn't give all the benefits of port injection. Fuel only control is can be cheaper and is easier than fuel and ignition control.

If I go EFI there are several things I won't do. I won't keep the distributor, I won't use an original or off the shelf intake manifold and I won't buy a system that I cannot tune.

You can't just put any crank trigger on there and have it work with a Jeep ECU, though - you need a *Jeep* crank trigger pattern, and one that matches the particular ECU that you have. There were two or three different designs.

Also, the Jeep ECU is expecting a Hall effect sensor that gives a signal for 180 degrees of cam rotation, on most models. You'd need to do a bit more than filing one tooth off the distributor wheel.

Note: I'm assuming you are grabbing a junkyard computer off a Jeep, since nearly all the 4.0s were factory injected. If this is an aftermarket kit for a Jeep straight six that was originally carbureted, that might be a different story.

Yes it is a up grade for the 258 cid that ran a carb. they used on that engine up untill the 4.0 jeeps came out. the hole kit from summit is $2500  but apples and oranges I guess. They also have those jeep tuners from superchips and what not, but look it up for yourself and tell me if I'm way off here. no hard feelings if I'm wrong i just thought I'd through it out there.

i remember now. they had the crank sensor on the flywheel and had two teeth missing every 120* and possibly advanced from tdc.

there would be quite a few parts to change in that kit; manifold, fuel rail, distributor, fuel lines.

$2500 is an awful lot of money to spend on a kit that doesn't fit and would need several parts made for it. there are several people on here that have built their efi for less than half of that.

yes the kit looks tempting, but i would pass and build my own system. much more pride of ownership.

Ah, that's the 4.2 system. It appears to come with a crank trigger. While the engine is about the right size, it would take a good bit of fabrication to put this kit on a slant six, and it doesn't look like there's an easy way to tune it.

I was thinking along the lines of Matt that they were a similar size/configuration to see if it would be possible. thanks guys for crushing my dream  . well Ill just figure out anthor idea :D later

Long as you're going to all that trouble of adapting something, you could get a tuneable aftermarket ECU and the parts you could salvage from that kit for less than the cost of that kit.

that is very true but I had my fingers crossed that you guys that have messed with efi ideas would see if it would have worked just by checking out the parts. I get my parts very cheap from the dealers through my work soooo............

I'm getting a head built right now and I wanted experiment with the idea of running efi  my super six will have to do.

has anyone heard for mpgmike lately??? He was going to give me some direction with a efi but I lost his # so I'll wait him out I guess.
