Post subject:  Offy Intake & Edelbrock

im in the final stages of putting my engine back together, and need some advice. which direction should i mount my edelbrock carb? i hear some people saying sideways is the best, and if sideways is best, which side should the primaries be on?. this is a street truck keep in mind. if mounting it sideways is the best option, how do i do it? my offy intake mounting holes dont line up with the carb when its on sideways. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Primary out is the best way.

Unfortunately the alignment pin won't allow the adapter plate to rotate that way.

I may experiment with drilling a new alignment hole in the plate. Someday. It works fairly well with the Primary to the front of the engine with my engine.

Take extra care to seal up the adapter plate. I had an intake leak there when I first installed mine.

I have tried them mounted both ways and found very little if any difference. :?

Just a very thin skin of RTV does it. Pay attention to the area around the screws that hold the plate on. I ended up covering them over with High temp. Let the stuff cure before you put gasoline and heat to it.

I kinda wondered how much difference rotating the carb 90° would make. I haven't experienced any serious troubles with mixture across the engine. At the track guys point to the primary being to the outside. It may make more difference with the internally ribbed intakes, like the Clifford. Dunno.
