How do I know what size my motor is? Is there a number somewhere I can check on? |

The ID is stamped into the block's deck surface, behind the alturnator. DD

That's probably a 1972 ("H") 225 engine somebody swapped into your 1963 car, but the rest of the stamping (R and what is probably actually 1221) don't match up with what one would expect to see on a '72 engine. |

What does R and 1221 mean? |

Well, the 1221 is a date code, but it does not fit in the range of date codes applied to 1972 engines, which is puzzling given the "H" (1972) year code. R= passenger car engine (as opposed to truck or industrial or marine). |
