| Post subject: | Heat Sinc...I Think |
I apologize in advance if this topic has been flogged to death. The problem I'm having is that after my car (green one in picture) is fully warmed up and parked for more than five minutes it is hard to start and smells of raw fuel without me touching the pedal. If I have a shorter stop then it's always a single snap of the key with no throttle to get it going. I'm currently running a single factory set-up and I've done the fuel line mod. Before I switched up to a new carb I actually had at least one occasion after a long hot drive when the fuel was actually bubbling out of the vent all over the hot manifold. That may have been a bad needle and seat but it was almost boiling. I'm thinking the thick base gasket will help some, does someone have the part # for single and two barrel application? Thanks, Pat. |

By all means put in the thick base gasket. Also do a search for "Fuel Line Mod" and use that as a guide to reroute your fuel path. That will go a long way toward resolving your problem. |

The problem you're experiencing is percolation due to heat soak. Definitely use the thick carb base gasket/insulator, make sure you're using the correct 180° thermostat, make sure the carburetor's float level is correctly set and the fuel line is rerouted as suggested in the instructions for the fuel line mod, check your fuel pump's pressure and the condition of your carb needle and seat, and try to buy fuel with as little alcohol in it as possible. |

Heat "soak" was the word I was really looking for, thanks Dan. I've done the fuel line mod so what I really need is a source and possibly a part # for the base gaskets. |

Don't know that number offhand. www.rockauto.com will have that info for you. There's one base gasket used from '74 up on all the 1bbls. |
