I have advocated many, many times, getting rid of the high resistance connections in your wiring system such as taking the amp output directly to the battery. I have done this on my car, and it made a big difference in performance and efficiency. However, in checking out the wiring on the new dash set up, I noticed that there is still a .7 volts drop between the battery power and the switched fuses. It reads 12.2 (engine off) at the battery, and 11.5 at the switched fuses. This loss is caused by the ignition switch, and two bulkhead connectors. The power goes from a Batt fuse block under the hood, through the stock fusable link, through the bulkhead connector, through the ignition switch, and then back out through the bulkhead connector to the switched fuse block under the hood. I am planning on taking the blue ignition lead which now powers the switched fuse block and turning on a relay to connect the switched fuse block directly to the batt power fuse block. In this way I hope to increase the efficiency of all the electrical systems in the car. The ECU is supposed to have a voltage regulator in it, so hopefully this will not effect any of the calibration in it. Sam |
