I seem to be having a difficult time finding a proper fitting power steering hose. I tried two different models from Kragen. The closest one from Kragen was part # 70353 (Powercraft brand), but it looks like the Chinese manufacturer got a dyslexic employee to make the design from a drawing. The bends are more or less correct, but at all the wrong angles. A tag on the hose says "this replacement hose has been redesigned for easier installation. It may not look like the hose removed from the car" Anyway, I haven't tried the hoses yet from NAPA, but I have to order these things, so I thought I would try the board to see if anybody has a source for a correct hose, so I only have to order one. BTW the NAPA hose are listed as part #s NPS 71577 (for Saginaw pump) or NPS 71591 (for Chrysler pump) I'm pretty sure I have the Saginaw pump from looking at pics on Rockauto (are rockautos OK?). It looks from the pictures that the Saginaw pump is more angular and the chrysler pump is more round. I have a 73 Dart Swinger |

Ohboy. I went through this exact hassle about 15 years ago, and it was a damnuisance back then. It has to be much worse now with everything being consolidated and outsourced to China. The Saginaw pump has a plastic cap with a cylindrical dipstick. The Chrysler pump has a metal cap with a flat dipstick. Make sure you're correctly IDing your pump. |

BTW, they list one for max cool/AC and one W/O max cool. This car came stock with AC (not currently installed) and has the 22" radiator, but the W/O max cool hose was a closer fit. |

Actually, that is a misprint. It should read " this replacement hose has been redesigned because we just can't do any better. It may not look or fit like the hose removed from the car, and we don't care".

Charrlie_S is correct on the translation. I think in your situation, I would probably be very tempted to visit a hydraulic-hose specialist and have them custom-make me a hose...I might even bring along the old hose so that the ends could be re-used or even just used as a guide for making new ones. |

I think that is what I will do. There is a good shop for that in town.I think in your situation, I would probably be very tempted to visit a hydraulic-hose specialist and have them custom-make me a hose...I might even bring along the old hose so that the ends could be re-used or even just used as a guide for making new ones. Another resource may be firm feel, if they don't have a line on this, probably nobody does. |
