| Post subject: | Proper remote starter switch hook-up |
The Mrs. bought me a nice Actron remote starter switch just because. We will see about the just because part. My question revolves around the grounding of the high tension coil wire from the center of the distributor to the battery via a jumper wire. What size wire should I use or is it even necessary? It also shows the 70's up starter relay with a Y-shaped plug being disconnected. I have a pre-70's relay so there is no plug. I just has the battery stud, solenoid terminal, ignition terminal and neutral safety switch terminal. Has anyone used one of these switchs? I'm trying to avoid frying something or myself. Thanks-Dart68 |

I use one all the time. I hook one clip to the battery terminal and the other to the solenoid terminal. I turn ther motor over with the key off only. |

Is this a starter button like a door bell switch so you can rotate the engine as in positioning for adjusting valves? If so you don't need to ground the coil wire because you will not have the ignition on. Just hook up to the battery & starter wires anywhere that is convenent. |

It is the pistal grip type that will be used to check compression, valve lash and whatever other reasons for bumping the motor. I'll assume from the information given that there is no chance of harming the ignition system by bumping the motor with the ignition in the off position? Thanks for the info. |
